Automations are a simple but effective system to deal with inbox/task-tracking anxiety.

Task-tracking automations are currently being overhauled.

How do these work?

Underneath, automations are labels with superpowers. They each have a title and color, inboxes they will appear in, and most importantly, rules. Rules specify types of emails to match to labels/automations.

Butler monitors your inbox 24/7; when an email comes in and matches a rule, the label and automation will be applied.

Simulating automations

You can test whether you’ve created a good rule by simulating your automation. Specify a time interval, and emails in the range will be compared to the rule of the automation you’re simulating to see if it would be labeled.

Logs

Whenever an automation runs, a log will be created. These can be viewed by clicking the clock icon on an automation.

Actions

Automations have actions. These are side-effects that happen after emails are classified into the label of an automation.

Actions are very powerful:

  1. Draft responses in your tone with AI
  2. Automatically forward emails to your team members
  3. Automatically archive/delete spam and marketing
  4. Automatically unsubscribe from spam and other items with a browser agent
  5. Send an SMS when urgent emails come in
  6. Automatically star high-priority emails
  7. Any combination of the actions above

Many actions can be configured further

Automatic inbox sorting

When you first connect an email, some useful pre-made automations will automatically be created.

The last two weeks of your inbox will then be sorted based on these automations, and all future emails will begin to be monitored.

Connecting more emails will add them to the pre-existing automations.
